The Town of Porcupine Plain is located on Highway 23, in the Northeast Parkland adjacent to Greenwater Lake Provincial Park.  Rich agricultural land, rolling hills, mixed forest, and numerous lakes make this one of the most beautiful areas in the Province!

Nestled within the Porcupine Provincial Forest, and just a short drive from Greenwater Lake Provincial Park, the Town of Porcupine Plain is a nature lover’s dream!  While Porcupine Plain’s main industry is agriculture, the Town is also a four-season tourism destination. The Town offers ample opportunity to get outside and explore nature – enjoy a scenic hike or lounge on the beach at nearby Greenwater Lake; relish quality time with family and friends while quadding, fishing, and ice fishing; or take in the beautiful landscape while cross-country skiing.  The area also boasts some of the best moose, elk, and whitetail deer hunting found anywhere!  The local snowmobile club grooms over 100 miles of pristine snowmobile trails, which connect to the groomed trails of Hudson Bay, Kelvington, Lintlaw, and Greenwater Lake Provincial Park, for an unforgettable snowmobiling experience.

Porcupine Plain is truly Nature’s Gift!

Milestone #4: Action Plan

Survey indicated that we need transportation to and from city for appointments as well as in-town travel, and a need for a food bank. (Investigating these.) Will work on smaller initiatives like exercise classes, a technology class, and helping with income tax preparation.

Current Work
  1. Porcupine Plain and area Community Care Cupboard – supporting local individuals and families who may be facing challenges with food access.  It’s about coming together as neighbours to make sure everyone feels supported, especially during difficult times.

This food cupboard has been running now for the past month and is going very well.  It operates only 1x/week in a very informal way.  This time of the year those who have fresh produce are also dropping it off.  By the end of the day there is very little left on the cart.

  2. The new accessible loading/unloading pads at the sports grounds (with cute custom signs!), the new sidewalk to accessible washrooms previously installed at sports grounds, and the new parking and sidewalk access to outbuildings at museum.

The project’s objective was to reduce barriers and increase accessibility at high-use recreational and cultural sites, enabling seniors and individuals with disabilities to continue participating in community life. Seniors and residents with mobility challenges now have improved access to both the sports grounds and the museum, allowing them to attend events and community gatherings as spectators, participants or volunteers.  And, with the addition of a sidewalk to the accessible washrooms installed at Porcupine Place quonset, all residents and visitors can use sanitary facilities safely and independently while attending events at the sports grounds.
